MultiTAS crashes when running reports

On running any report that uses Crystal Reports in MultiTAS on a Windows 7 computer, MultiTAS crashes.

This is caused by DEP (data execution prevention). To disable DEP please do the following:

1. Into the Windows 7 start menu box type in ‘cmd’
2. Command Prompt will appear in the list of programs – right click on it and choose ‘Run As Administrator’. A command prompt window should open.
3. Into the command prompt window please type the following command then press Enter:

bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff

4. Close the Command Prompt window and restart the computer

If you run this command, reboot and you are not able to start Windows, then run Windows in safemode and enable it again, using this command:

bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn

You can start Windows in safemode by pressing F8 during bootup

A crash is one of the indicators of this issue. You may receive any of these errors instead:

  • “Unable to get the window handle for the ‘AxCrystalActiveXReportViewer’ control. Windowless ActiveX controls are not supported.”
  • A Blank Preview screen
